The Apuan Alps
These are the jagged rocky peaks that rise over 6,000 feet (2,000 metres) just inland from the coast and can be seen from all over Lunigiana (including from our terrace!). They offer hiking and pony trekking, and also have, at Equi Terme, some impressive cave systems open from late spring to early autumn.
The Apuan Alps are worth a visit whether you’re looking for anything from a drive through in the car to a major stomp through the hills. The Passo Del Vestito is a good route for a drive on the road from Massa to Castelnuovo Di Garfagnana.
If you keep a good lookout there are some nice restaurants at various points beside this road as it winds up toward the pass.
